As many of you know, we are both nurses. We see the good, the bad and the ugly. I felt compelled to write a post about child and youth mental health because we have recently seen the hard side of this. It's the reason why we were quiet on social media for a little while, sometimes what we see is hard to process. Awareness of mental health is growing slowly but is the stigma really lifting? Kids need to know that they are not alone in this battle and I feel like it's something our generation of moms desperately needs to be aware of and watch for on a daily basis. After a hard few weeks at work, I began doing research about resources and awareness about youth and mental health and am excited to see kids can text 686868 and have a trained crisis responder help them! A step in the right direction. But it starts are home. Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles PLEASE start the conversation with your child or loved one early. It's a difficult conversation to have but I truly believe that by opening this door, it might not only touch your children's lives but others too. When we drop judgement about mental health, beautiful changes can happen. And any moms already dealing with this, my heart goes out to you. You are strong and you can do this. And if you ever need anyone to talk, drop us a line. We know that sometimes you just need to share your burden with someone. Lets get the conversation started.
